India-US Trade Talks: Next Round Expected Soon, Focus on Export Boost and Domestic Demand
Government sources have indicated that the next formal round of trade negotiations between India and the United States is expected to take place soon, although a specific date has not yet been finalized. The discussions are seen as a crucial step in addressing trade imbalances and strengthening bilateral economic ties.
According to officials, the government is preparing a series of measures to cushion any potential setbacks in global trade by relying more on domestic demand. Fast-paced consultations are underway on a new Export Promotion Measures (EPM) framework, which could be rolled out for a period of around six years.
The planned reforms are expected to provide long-term support to India’s export sector, with a focus on both diversification and resilience. While some of these measures may be specifically targeted towards the US market, the government is also working to expand India’s trade reach with BRICS nations and other emerging markets.
Industry experts believe that global supply chain disruptions may take five to six months to stabilize, and that the current challenges are temporary. In the meantime, trade bodies have urged the government to provide liquidity support, restore earlier export schemes, and introduce new incentives to maintain competitiveness.
Another key area under consideration is e-commerce exports, with policymakers pushing for faster adoption of digital trade to open up new opportunities for small and medium enterprises.
The upcoming India-US trade talks, coupled with domestic reforms, are expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of India’s export strategy and supporting long-term economic growth.
