Mumbai Rains Impact: Swiggy, Zomato, Zepto Suspend Deliveries in Several Areas
Mumbai, August 19, 2025 – Continuous heavy rainfall in Mumbai has disrupted daily life and forced major food and grocery delivery platforms such as Swiggy, Zomato, and Zepto to temporarily stop services in multiple parts of the city.
Residents in areas like Andheri, Goregaon, Borivali, Kurla, Chembur, Parel, and Worli reported that the apps displayed “Delivery temporarily unavailable due to rains” messages throughout the day.
Why Deliveries Were Halted
The decision comes as intense rainfall led to severe waterlogging, traffic congestion, and partial suspension of local train services. Delivery companies paused operations citing the safety of their riders, who often face high risks navigating flooded streets.
Impact on Residents
Thousands of office-goers and families dependent on online orders for meals and groceries were left stranded. Social media was flooded with complaints as well as support for the move, with many users acknowledging that delivery partner safety must take priority.
Company Updates
While no official press release has been issued yet, Swiggy and Zomato are sending real-time service updates via their apps. Zepto, which specializes in 10-minute grocery deliveries, has suspended operations in high-risk flood zones until conditions stabilize.
Broader Concerns
Mumbai experiences heavy monsoon disruptions almost every year. The current situation once again raises concerns about urban planning, drainage infrastructure, and the vulnerability of last-mile delivery services to extreme weather.
